NATIONAL REPORT

 SLOVENIAN READING ASSOCIATION

Basic information

  • The Slovenian Reading Association was founded in 1995.
  • 70 members (compared to the previous years, the number has dropped – due to funding cuts?)
  • New board elected in September 2011.

Major activities in 2011

  • Ljubljana – World Book Capital (23 April 2010 – 23 April 2011): participation at the World Book Summit, “Book: the Bearer of Human Development“, 31. 3. 2011 – 2. 4. 2011.
  • November 2010 – May 2011: research on Reading in Slovenia (website questionnaires, printed materials). Results presented at a panel discussion, 8 September 2011.
  • Biennial conference (8 September 2011):  Image and communication (different types of literacies). The proceedings published in Vloga slikovnih sestavin pri sporazumevanju: zbornik Bralnega društva Slovenije (2011).
  • Guest lectures and workshops (guiding thread: digital literacy, new types of literacies).
  • Reports at the Mons conference.
  •  One of the major Slovenian books on reading published in Croatian (Zagovor branja – Bralec in književnost v 21. stoletju /In Defense of Reading. The Readership and Literature in the Twenty-First Century. / U obranu čitanja. Čitatelji i književnost u 21. stoljeću)
  • Recognition of our work: Tilka Jamnik (the Čop Prize), Meta Grosman (the IBBY Slovenia Prize)

Runing projects

  • New website under construction (http://www.bralno-drustvo.si)
  • Research on reading habits of university students
  • Panel discussion at liber.ac (the annual academic book fair, organised by the Faculty of Arts,University ofLjubljana, May 2012).

 

Planned programs

  • Workshop, Culture Fair 2013 (organised by the Ministry of Culture)
  • biennial conference, theme: Readers with special needs (8 September 2013 )
