EUROPEAN CONFERENCES
A European Conference on Reading is held every two years. The European Conferences on Reading are jointly organized by the International Development in Europe Committee (IDEC) of the International Reading Association and the local national association’s organising committee. Although the main Conference language is English, a speaker may present a paper in any European language. There are normally, therefore, sessions in at least German, Spanish, and French, as well as in English.
The Highly appreciated Conferences are a show case of the professional activities of the European and International network of the members of the IDEC and IRA.

Is the IRA’s Winter IDEC still going to be held in Glasgow, Scotland in January, 2013? Is this particular gathering only for members who hold a position of leadership, or can any IRA member register to attend? I would appreciate a prompt response if anyone can help me out on these inquiries. Thanks! P.C.
Dear Paul,
The winter IDEC meeting is being preceded by a one-day seminar which this year will be on the topic of ‘Teaching Writing’. It will be held on Friday 11th January 2013 at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow,, Scotland. Anyone is welcome to attend. There may be a (very) small charge for tea/ coffee and lunch. ON Saturday and Sunday there are business meetings for IDEC, which anyone can observe but they are committee meetings.
People who are coming to the seminar and the IDEC meetings tend to be staying at the Glasgow Premier Inn, George Square, Glasgow. This is close to the seminar venue and also close to the shopping and restaurants in Glasgow, and is not too expensive if you book early.
Let me know if you would like to come, and if you would like to submit a short (200 word) abstract for a paper. We are about to publicise the call for papers at the end of this week
Best wishes,
Sue Ellis
