Elinet EU-project
One in five 15-year-old Europeans, as well as nearly 75 million adults, lack basic reading and writing skills. Not only does this make it hard for them to find a job, it also increases their risk of poverty and social exclusion.
The European Literacy Policy Network ELINET was initiated to gather and analyze policy information; exchange policy approaches, good practice, and initiatives and raise awareness of the importance of acting now to reduce the number of children, young people and adults with low literacy skills by 2020. ELINET is formed of 79 partner organizations from 28 countries. The network has received funding from the European Commission to complete a two year work program. During this time, it will develop tools that can be used by different members as well as supporting existing and encouraging new activities. You can visit the EU Elinet project site (still under construction).
On the Annual Convention of the International Reading Association in New Orleans, 10 – 12 of May 2014, Christine Garbe and Renate Valtin talked about the EU-Project Elinet. You can find the presentation here ELINET_Presentation-IRA conference New Orleans_final version
