The main purpose of the association is the support of literacy research and practice in Switzerland. The goals include exchange and collaboration between research and practice, the French and German language regions, and organisations engaged in literacy. Perspectives on literacy include different age groups, life domains, and research disciplines.
An editorial board of literacy experts from 8 important organisations publishes 3 issues of the open access online-journal leseforum.ch, forumlecture.ch, forumlettura.ch per year.
Leseforum Schweiz was a core partner of the ELINET project and collaborating member of team 7 (awareness raising).
